Summer is in full swing and this year, the bugs are horrendous! This last winter in the Pacific Northwest was mild - so mild that the insects, specifically the mosquitos, are in rare form this year. All the more reason to start each day with our Bug Off Citronella soap bar which is July's featured scent of the month. 

I get asked about this soap a lot at shows and farmer's markets. "Does it really work?" is the most common question. The answer is yes. 

Crow's Croft Farm is my home and I adore my house and property. One of my favorite features is the salmon creek that runs through it. When the salmon run, I can watch them from up the hill while enjoying a cup of coffee on my back porch. Bald eagles hunt the creek in the winter and teach their young how to hunt in early summer. In the evening, swallows swoop and dive over the creek and at nightfall are replaced by bats. The swallows and bats are a welcome sight since they hunt the insects congregating around and above the creek. With the summer heat and humidity, the mosquitos are everywhere come dusk. They dance in clouds and I am often swatting them off my dogs or my horse Charlie. I have the misfortune of being rather appealing to mosquitos and, up until I created this soap, I was their favorite snack station. I make this soap in both a Hempseed and Avocado Oil base so that everyone can enjoy it's benefits. Citronella Essential Oil is a pungent, citrus scent and, given the bar's purpose, this is one of the strongest scented bars Inky Quills produces. I find that just taking my daily shower with it is enough to keep the mosquitos away, even if I can't smell the citronella on my own skin after a little while. 

Robert and I love to camp and I make sure to bring a bar of this soap with us every time we venture out to spend a long weekend around the campfire or hiking in the mountains. The wrap the soap comes in smells strongly of citronella and I find packing it in with our tent or in with our clothing also serves as an effective deterrent.
