May's Featured Scent is Honeysuckle! May 12 2026, 0 Comments

Spring is definitely here and its feeling a bit more like early summer. This month is chock full of many wonderful things to celebrate for me. Most of my family has birthdays this month, myself included, and I get to celebrate the most wonderful woman in my life, my Mama.

On the farm, everything is blooming, the seeds I planted in March/April are mature seedlings now and I can start planting some of my warmer crops. My favorite part of the garden this month though is the flowers. They're all blooming! My wisteria is gorgeous and fragrant, the tulips have just started to fade in time for the roses to start blooming. Mornings are still cool, but come with a beautiful chorus of bird song and the fledging birds are learning to fly.  Honeybees are buzzing around, my mason bees are hatched and pollinating my fruits trees which are bursting with blossoms. The hummingbirds are ignoring the feeders I keep full through the fall and winter and are focusing heavily on the new blooms.

The hummingbirds have a favorite flower in my garden and its honeysuckle. I planted two on my garden fence a few years ago and one on my boundary fence several years back. The hummingbirds flock to all three of them and the sultry, sweet smell of this beautiful flowering vine hangs on the morning dew and settles on the evening air each day in May and into June. For me, it celebrates spring while also saying "Summer's almost here!" This scent is a very popular Spring Seasonal in the Inky Quills Signature Soap collection. I only make a few batches of this hempseed based soap a year and it sells out every time. Given the time of year and how much I adore this plant, it only makes sense to make it May's featured soap. Like the beautiful vine that inspires it, it doesn't last too long, so be sure to grab yours while they're still in stock!
